Sankara, red XXL (26"p2p,28"s2h,35"c2c)

£25.00

Imagine living in a country where the leader is humble, inspiring, transformative, charismatic, leads by example and is one of the people. Joseph Sankara was the leader of Burkina Faso from 1983-1987. He knew that politics was about making the people’s lives better through education, health, rights and social justice. He focused on literacy, greater access to healthcare and greater rights particularly for women. He forced his ministers to drive small modest cars, live in small houses and stamped out corruption. He was so popular he could cycle around the place and didn’t have body-guards. He made the county more self-sufficient and changed its name from the old colonialist name of Upper Volta to Burkina Faso the land of the upright people. He lead a very simple life and was revered by the people across the continent as a pan-Africanist but also threatened the West and other African leaders. In 1987, at the age of 37 he was murdered in a mysterious plot that might have included France and the US and some of his closest followers. Ever since his killing there has been a campaign to find out what actually happened and who planned the assassination. Thomas Sankaras legacy and legend lives on.

Handprinted on a preloved red sweatshirt, with black eco ink.

Measures: 26” pit to pit, 28” shoulder to hem and 35”collar to cuff.
