Japan are always one of my second teams at World Cups. I really enjoy their style of play with such great energy, movement and technique. They play quite open football and are always looking to attack which is what the game is all about. I first heard about football in Japan when one of my favourite players Zico went over in 1991. The team names are fab: Grampus Eight, Verdy Kawasaki, Yokohama Marinos, Kashima Antlers and Gamba Osaka. The teams had great kits as well, lots of Mizuno, Le Coq Sportif and ennerre. I love the JFA badge, it’s a mythical three legged raven called Yatagarasu with a ball. Bloody brill. The national teams nickname is Samurai Blue which is cool to so I printed some sweats.
